Recycle Week: Rescue Your Recyclables ♻️

It’s Recycle Week – the annual campaign encouraging us all to think a little more carefully about what we throw away and what could have a second life.

Hosted by WRAP (the Waste and Resources Action Programme) through its Recycle Now campaign, Recycle Week is all about making recycling part of our everyday habits and helping more of the things we use every day get recycled.

And this year, the message is simple:

Rescue Your Recyclables

To bring the message to life, WRAP has given some everyday household items their own personalities – reminding us that the things we might casually call “rubbish” could actually have another life.

Shampers (Shampoo bottle) | Spritz (Perfume bottle) | Deo (Aerosol) | Minty (Toothpaste tube) 

From the bathroom cabinet to the recycling bin, there are more recyclable items around us than you might think.

Shampoo bottles

We get through 35.8 million plastic bottles every day in the UK, and many can be recycled.

Recycled plastic can also be given a new life – including being transformed into the water-resistant linings used in Victoria Green beauty bags!

Recycling one shampoo bottle can save enough energy to power a hairdryer for around five minutes.

Perfume bottles

Finished your favourite fragrance? Glass perfume bottles can be recycled, and recycling one saves enough energy to watch TV for around two hours.

Your perfume bottle could be recycled into a bottle for your favourite bubbly drink. 

Aerosols

Empty deodorant cans are made from metal, which can be recycled again and again.

Recycling one aluminium deodorant can save enough energy to charge your phone more than 40 times.

Toothpaste tubes

Many toothpaste tubes can now be recycled, and recycled material can be used to make brand new tubes.

So when you’ve squeezed out the last drop, check before you chuck. 

Remember, recycling collections vary by location, so always check your local recycling guidance before you put something in the recycling.
