In this month's Desert Island Delights we invited Beauty Editor Sabine Wiesel to share with us what items she would pack in a beauty bag should she be cast away on a desert island.
Sabine is a freelance beauty editor with over 10 years’ experience working on lifestyle magazines including Red, Good Housekeeping and Prima. She recently started her own blog to share her knowledge and experience, Sabine Says is aimed at show-casing beauty that works for women thirty-plus.
What 5 items would you pack in your beauty bag to take to a desert island?
1. Ultrasun SPF50+ Tinted Face Sun Cream
Sun protection has to be top of my list. I love this formula because it has me well-covered, not just for those burning UVB rays, but the ageing UVA rays too. And it’s tinted so provides a little natural coverage, so I get two products in one.
2. Lancome Hypnose Waterproof Mascara
Mascara is the one make-up product I can’t live without. This is my absolute favourite wand, as it adds great volume and colour to my short, blonde eyelashes – plus it stays put all day.
3. Kérastase Soleil Masque Apres Soleil
My hair is going to be parched from the sun and salt-water, so I’d take this luxe mask as it instantly leaves hair smooth and soft when I’ve taken it away before. It’s pricey, but worth it as It works, and I guess there’ll be no one to cut my hair on the island so it needs all the TLC it can get.
4. Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File
The thought of not being able to smooth out a broken or ridged nail gives me the fear. I can’t stand the feel and sound of emery boards, so I love this file. It lasts forever, well if you don’t keep losing it like I do.
5. La Roche-Posay Pure Vitamin C 10 Serum
I have pigmentation on my face where I haven’t protected my skin enough from the sun in the past. Layering a vitamin C serum under my SPF will help prevent further damage, so I’m packing this superstar anti-oxidant.
In addition to your 5 selected beauty items, which other luxury item would you take with you to the island?
I couldn’t live without my sunglasses. I squint a lot, even on a cloudy day in London, so they’d be invaluable on a desert island. I also suffer from migraines, so the bigger the better!
