In this month's Desert Island Delights we invited Hero Brown of Muddy Stilettos to share with us what items she would pack in a beauty bag should she be cast away on a desert island.
Muddy Stilettos first tottered into the world in 2011 as a way for journalist Hero Brown to find out the fun stuff to do in Bucks & Oxon, having moved out of London that summer with husband and baby son in tow.
Offering a witty, super-useful insider’s guide to the very best food, walks, boutiques, day trips, hotels, interiors and events for smart, fun-loving women living outside London, Muddy Stilettos is now one of the UK’s biggest online lifestyle sites, and can be found in 24 counties.
As Editor-in-Chief of an ‘urban guide to the countryside’, we were keen to find out what beauty products Hero would pack if she had to swap the countryside for a desert island...
What 5 items would you pack in your beauty bag to take to a desert island?
1. Zao Aloe Vera Refillable Mascara from Plastic Freedom
I love this refillable mascara from Plastic Freedom - the site collates all the best eco beauty products, most of which are totally no nasties and plastic free. Fingers crossed they’ll deliver the refills to the island, I don’t want litter on my beach!
2. Balm Dotcom by Glossier
I always carry a lip balm from this cool cult beauty brand, the packaging is gorgeous and it’s an absolute lifesaver on holiday. It's super-hydrating and has a really pleasant waxy texture. My favourite flavours are mint, coconut and mango.
3. Extra Repair Moisturizing Balm by Bobbi Brown
This is my go-to for an everyday moisturiser, it’s on the pricier side but it lasts for ages so worth every penny. It’s much lighter than moisturisers I’ve used in the past and doesn’t feel like you’re slapping paint emulsion on your face, plus it has built-in SPF, so ideal for sunny climes.
4. Nailberry's Bubble Gum
I always like to match my nails to my holiday. I love bright, summery colours that will add a pop of colour to my beach style. Nailberry polishes are great because they don’t chip if I decide to go swimming. Bonus points for being vegan and cruelty free, too.
5. Chanel No. 5
I’ve been using this perfume since I was about 15 and I still adore it – you can’t improve perfection!
